Archive for January, 2008

Last night, Bob and I joined my friends Nell and Skip for dinner at Parisi’s Steakhouse in Schenectady. The occasion was Schenectady’s 3rd annual Restaurant Week (Jan 29-Feb 2), which I’m proud to say I had a hand in starting back in 2005.
The deal is this: for the low price of $19.62 (1962 signifies [...]

Football + Cake = Birthday

So…my birthday is Sunday. Yes, Super Bowl Sunday. When did the NFL decide that it would move the Super Bowl into February?
According to Wikipedia:
Due to the September 11, 2001 attacks and the NFL schedule being moved one week back, Super Bowl XXXVI was rescheduled from the original date of January 27 to [...]

I’ve Been Tagged…

OK, another cool meme from Sweetpea that I happily comply with!
The rules:
* link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
* share 5 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
* tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.

My 80’s Hunk

Your 80s Hunk Is

Bill Gates

Who’s Your 80s Hunk?

Not too surprising, really. I’ve always loved the nerdy guys…
Although, I have to admit, I always had a huge crush on Jason Bateman (Sweetpea’s hunk), back when he played Ricky Schroeder’s friend on “Silver Spoons”, and when he finally got his own show, “It’s Your Move”. [...]

My friend Nell and I went to see Spamalot at Proctors on Wednesday night, and we ventured out for dinner in Schenectady beforehand. We had originally intended to re-visit Aperitivo Bistro on State Street in Schenectady prior to the theatre, but they had absolutely no tables the entire week! Good for them. [...]

We like it because it’s relatively inexpensive, has a good selection of adult beverages, and knows how to make a good steak. On our recent visit, Bob ordered his usual slab of cow (filet mignon, I believe), [...]

Hillary Goes Down in Flames!

I recently wrote an email to the “Hillary for President” campaign, requesting a free bumper sticker. I was hoping to receive it in time for Christmas, so that I could put it in Bob’s stocking.
It didn’t arrive in time for Christmas - but it still has inspired many hours of hilarity in my house. [...]

Indian Spiced Walnuts
2 large egg whites, lightly beaten
1 1/2 teaspoon Hot Curry powder (I use the kind from Penzey’s)
1 tablespoon ground cumin (Penzey’s again)
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
4 cups walnut halves and pieces (or halves only, if you’re particular like I am)
1. Coat a large, shallow, baking pan with non-stick vegetable spray.
2. Mix [...]

Wine Recommendation

Yalumba Shiraz Viognier 2006
Yalumba is Australia’s oldest family-owned winery. And boy do they make a good wine!
I absolutely love this one - it’s a blend of 92% Shiraz and 8% Viognier (which is a white grape), and it makes a terrific wine for just sipping in front of the fire. We had [...]
